PSE&G supports “The Valley” Neighborhood Revitalization Project
PSE&G has joined forces with the Housing and Neighborhood Development Services (HANDS) to develop a revitalization plan for “The Valley” section of Orange. The plan – which encompasses a 40-block radius -- includes converting the 100-year old F. Berg hat factory into the “Valley Renaissance Center” -- a multi-use complex of loft condominiums and arts-related commercial space.
HANDS submitted its neighborhood plan to the State Department of Community Affairs, and was the first community development corporation to be awarded the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit.
In addition to providing financial support for the planning process, PSE&G is encouraging local businesses to become involved. PSE&G’s Urban Development staff introduced the proposed neighborhood plan to several businesses during numerous site visits. In 2004, local business owners met as a unified group to establish new steps and a pliable approach to address their concerns.
